Do You Create Content that Adds Value?
Do you create content that adds value to your audience or are you just producing content because you think you should be?
Content that adds value doesn’t necessarily have to be mind-blowing, original content all the time. There are four main ways you can add value through your content:
Information
Facts and news that help people make new or improved decisions that matter to them.
Entertainment
Experiences that attract people’s attention and engage their emotions.
Inspiration
Content that helps people believe in themselves and try new things.
Education
Resources that help people acquire new skills or enhance their capabilities.
Recently I posted this image on my Facebook page I love this image! Jack Black’s famous TikTok dance got me thinking just how great this is and not because he’s an amazing dancer. This is an example of creating content that adds value using entertainment. It’s funny – he’s funny – and it’s memorable.
1. Know your audience
The key to creating content that adds value to your audience is to know your audience. Who are you talking to? If you don’t know who your target market is, you can’t create a content strategy until you do. Read my post on How to Identify Your Ideal Customer or Avatar and go through the steps so you know who you’re targeting in your content creation.
2. Solve a problem
What problem do they have that you want to solve for them? Speaking directly to your target market’s problem, is the very best way to add value. They are following you or at least reading/listening to your content to get their problem solved.
3. Be yourself
Let your personality shine through in the content that you create. You are unique and have value to offer in just sharing your experience and knowledge and observations. It can just be valuable because you are connecting with someone who responds to your personality. You may be more comfortable writing than producing videos, so start with a blog. If you prefer video, consider YouTube and Facebook Lives or Instagram Lives.
4. Build your reputation
Very often creating content that adds value doesn’t equate to a sale immediately. What it does do if you do it right, is to build your reputation in your niche. And, this in time, will lead to sales.
5. It’s not about you
Take the pressure off yourself to be perfect or to try to know everything. You don’t need to. Focus always on your audience and what they want or need. You are only there to share your knowledge and experience not to be perfect.
6. Analyse
Google Analytics is free. There is no excuse not to know first and foremost, who is following your content. You can learn so much from analytics – gender, age, location, device being used, repeat visitors, which social platforms they have come from, what terms they searched just as an example. Install it, use it and learn from it.
Listen in to my ‘Marketing Conversation’ in the video below with my friend Paula on how you too can create content that’s valuable. Adding value leads to more followers which will ultimately leads to more sales.
Building a relationship through your content and automation is one of the strategies that all the top marketers use.
